Turkish pop cinema: NEHIR (aka The River)

Fantastic! I bought this tonight!! The film is the Turkish horror flick NEHIR, in English known as The River.

Bill Barounis of ONAR FILMS described NEHIR as "Turkish Deliverance"!!

And here's the Greek release of the film!

NEHIR is also out on VHS in Norway and Finland (as Verinen Joki). The Norwegian tape is even letterboxed (which I certainly hope the Danish one is as well). The Norwegian cover shown here is actually from a Betamax release (and comes courtesy of Patrick, a drunken Norwegian with a beard).

EDIT:
The term "Turkish pop cinema" was first used by Mondo Macabro and I realise they used it for their DVD release and, well, those two films they put out ARE pop cinema. And NEHIR most likely isn't. But back when I wrote it it seemed like a cool headline. Well, back in the day we all did stuff we might not wanna do today but we tend to forget. Back in the day. Ahm, yesterday. :/

  2. Okay, I'll do that. :-)
I asked Ayman about the film and he said there are different scenes in the English dubbed version and the original Turkish one. I've really happy to have bought the Danish tape (altho I only secured the deal tonight so I don't actually have it yet), it's very rare, I've never even seen it before and it's dubbed into English.

  12. Hello,

This is Efe from Turkey and Nehir has always been one of my favorite Turkish films despite it's poor picture quality and some deleted scenes that were cut due to censorship at the time of it's release. Even the studio itself can't locate the missing footage.

So it came as a BIG shock while I was googling the film to find this blog and learn there is a foreign copy of it with additional footage! Is there any chance that you have the film transfered to digital format? And if so would you be kind enough to share it with me.

I know it's been almost 10 years since this entry but I thought I could give it a go anyway.

    Thanks

  13. Hey Efe X!
Ten years down the line but I'm still here. LOL. I've still got the Danish VHS release of the international version and also the Greek VHS of the Turkish version. I wonder if the version released on Turkish VHS is cut compared to the Turkish version on the Greek VHS? Anyhoo, I'll keep in mind that you'd like a copy and get back to you at some point. It may takes months.
    /Jack
