Afilli Delikanli (Turkey, 1976)

Amazing! I won Yilmaz Atadeniz' AFILLI DELIKANLI tonight on eBay! Yay! Spiffy! And I was the only bidder too! (maybe cos it's a Betamax but still!).

Yilmaz Atadeniz is the Turkish director who also did THE DEATHLESS DEVIL (aka Yilmayan seytan and on DVD from Mondo Macabro), SPY SMASHER (aka Casus Kiran, on DVD from Onar), KILING ISTANBUL'DA (also from Onar), and many more (Atadeniz is the guy in MM's docu who says "I wish we hadn't used a robot in DEATHLESS DEVIL that was so obviously a man in a robot suit", haha).

  4. Okay.

Btw, I found a handful of Cüneyt Arkin films on eBay but I haven't read anything about any of them. Have you seen any of them? He's slightly cheaper than most sellers. Usually Turkish VCDs are around $12 on eBay.

This one is a black and white rich girl poor boy melodrama. The quality is fairly good a bit faded.the story is about a poor boy ,cuneyt who wants to marry a rich girl filiz but he's not good enough for the girl's family .cuneyt and his mother come to ask for the girl's hand in marriage but they laugh at them and throw them out of their mansion.finally the tables turn around, the rich girl's family become paupers and cuneyt becomes a world famous architect who is swimming in riches and he returns to give the girl's family a taste of their own medicine.good if you like this sort of movie.

  7. this one Col Kartali (desert eagle) is one of cuneyt's best flicks,it's also available on dvd but vcd's are more collectable in my opinion, much better than lion man and the quality is pretty good.I think it's one of bill's favourites too:-

  8. the one korusuz cengaver (fearless warrior) below is very similar to kilic aslan(lion man)the photo on the vcd is i think from another movie. If you like lion man, you'll like this too,the quality is about the same as that movie :-

  9. Thanks, Tombei.
Hmm, since my Turkish is a bit rusty (haha) I think the Filiz Akin film may be a bit heavy on me. If I watch unsubbed/undubbed films I prefer they have cartoon thin plots and not too much important dialogue, LOL.

Btw, I have a Filiz Akin film called "The Boy Who Knew Too Much" (Eng. dub). It's pretty good. Well, 80% of it is, the remaining bit is taken up by that damn kid who was so often in Filiz Akin films. LOL. I forget his name. Ayman Kole told me he was the son of the owner of the film company so that's why he was in so many films. o_O

  11. This film alageyik is also another very good cuneyt arkin film,About a hunter who is obsessed with hunting a mystical deer rather than taking care of his wife or being the leader of his village. He's obsession leads to a tragic ending.Mine Mutlu plays his bride.pretty good quality for a turkish fim,

  12. Hakanlar carpisiyor is another great film this one is available on dvd.The vcd was selling for $4 from this seller last week.someone must've bought it.It's basically a more colourful 70s remake of that 1950s movie Kizil Tug availale from Onar films with some Battal gazi type elements thrown into the mix.It stars cuneyt arkin and aytekkin akkaya. This is another good arkin flick, pity someone bought the vcd ,the quality is pretty good too :-

  14. I could try and ask that seller if he has more copies left of "Hakanlar carpisiyor". Apart from it being cheaper, do you think the VCD would be better pic quality?

  15. I don't have the boy who knew too much with filiz akin was that off a vhs tape? Do you have Iki Esir(two captives) with cuneyt and filiz ?

    ReplyDelete
  16. No, not off a tape. It's the tape I linked to (the Dutch tape is just called "Little Eye-Witness"). I own the tape. No, sorry I don't have that other one.

    ReplyDelete
  17. maybe the quality might be about the same or a little bit better on the dvd.If you don't mind spending 12.95 on the dvd then get that one ?

  18. did you spend $40 with eskidostlar if so ask him to use more padding or cardboard in the package sometimes the cases get cracked?

    ReplyDelete
  19. HAHA, I don't need to!!

Sorry, but sometimes it's difficult to remember titles when you don't speak the language and "Hakanlar carpisiyor" was actually the first VCD that I ordered from that store tonight.

I must have clicked on it before you looked at the page! It was actually only $5!! I did a search and found another seller who has the same VCD and I recognised the cover, LMAO (and the other guy wants $12 for the same VCD!!).

    ReplyDelete
  20. What I meant with that last post was: Yes, I spent all $40 on VCDs at that store and it's a good idea to ask him to use more padding.

  21. Jack,Hakanlar Carpisiyor, which roughly translates to "The Clash of the Warrior Lords".Like I said before it's almost a remake of that Kizil Tug movie on Onar but much more enjoyable to watch because it's made in the mid-70s with arkin and aytekin akkaya.I got it off him too for $4.95.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thanks for that translation. And 4.95 that's what I paid too. :D

  23. Btw, if you didn't notice it there was a reply to your last comment in the "Byzantine women/love" thread. You can subscribe to comments so you'll get an email when someone posts a reply. The subscription thingy is just under each post.

  26. - and I did ask him about extra padding. Let's see how it goes.

Btw, I also ordered two films from Ciko:

KIZILMASKE and KARTAL YUVASI (Turkish Straw Dogs). Both films are subtitled in English (kind of).

  27. Jack, five that's pretty good,he gives a discount for multiple items, two dollars for extra items.sometimes i've had vcds and cds with cracked covers from him but mostly they turn up in good shape.I might try Ciko later but i blew a lot of cash in the last year i've bought over 220 vcds, cds and dvds.I have to hide the stuff away from my wife cos she gets pissed off when she sees all the stuff building up.LOL.
