Turko Trasho: KIZIL MASKE (Tolga Ziyal, 1968)

He wears a mask when he's beating up bad guys, he wears a raincoat when he's himself, he lives in the jungle, he has a motorbike, he has snappy hand guns, he even has a killer-dog... he is... THE PHANTOM... no, wait... he is... KIZIL MASKE!!!

The film stars Ismet Erten as the hero and Erol Tas - most likely as the bad guy cos, well, Erol Tas was ALWAYS the bad guy in Turkish cinema! xD.

Incidentally, the same year Cetin Inanc also directed a film by the same title!! Talk about confusing film releases!! I reviewed it here.

  1. hi There,Is this version of kizil maske better than the one, i think starring irfan atasoy ? I didn't like the quality on that one and also the ending was missing.Keep the Turkish film reviews/articles rolling off the assembly line. Thanks

  2. Sorry but I can't tell you as I've only watched the other one. Old Turkish psychotronic films is an acquired taste so if you like films like Kilink and some of the Onar superhero releases then you're probably gonna like this one too (but like I said I haven't watched it). If you check my review for the other Kizil Maske film you'll see I comment on the missing end. The VCD didn't have the ending but the bootleg DVD which I have has had it put back in (probably from a VHS). It's available from Shocking Videos (as Red Mask).

  4. Thanks for your comments Jack J,you've got a great blog.I've been reading it on and off for about a year.I know what you mean about Turkish cult flicks. The movies themselves are great but the bad quality of the prints and source material is what lets them down. Most of the Onar videos are pretty good viewing.
    cheers
