The Super Eastern eight

[click scan for much bigger size] I have a new camera so I might as well show you my old (but mint condition) poster for the 8 Video International releases that came out in their "Super Eastern Serien" series in Denmark back in the 1980s. These tapes are more rare than getting laid at a dike slumber party and I'm sorry to say I only have GHOSTLY FACE in my collection (but that's probably also the coolest of the lot! Plus it's letterboxed and uncut. Yay! LOL).

Metal up yer ass

From left: Dave Mustaine, Lars Ulrich, Ron McGovney, James Hetfield (in the background). Circa 1981/82

I remember exactly where it began. Ehh, kinda. In 1984 Danish television ran a series of 6 one hour programs entitled "Heavy Metal"!!! I taped them all (on Betamax!). Unfortunately tapes were expensive in those days so I think all (or most anyway) of them were taped over eventually. Anyway, the first episode featured an interview with a very young Lars Ulrich and I just knew I had to have their records! The first one I got was the "Creeping Death/Garage Days Revisited" EP and, woah!! This was something completely different to the hardrock and heavy metal records I had in my collection! Stuff like Iron Maiden, Rainbow, and Girlschool (!!!). It was different to the punk records I had and it was certainly different to the new wave stuff. This changed everything to a lot of youngsters who grew up in northern Europe in the mid-80s. The only proper, big magazine at the time was the original German edition of "Metal Hammer" (the UK version wasn't published till much later) plus of course the tons of underground fanzines (my very first metal zine was "Metallic Beast" whose editors later went on to write for "Moshable"). Anyway, I found this photo (the top one) on some site and it brought back memories; You see this pic was also on the cover on the "Garage Days Revisited" bootleg LP which I bought circa 1986/87. It cost me an arm and a leg! But it was an awesome record to get in those days cos in contradiction to most other boots it didn't contain a shitty recorded live gig but was most of the legendary "No Life 'Til Leather" demo + some other demo from a studio session to "Ride The Lightning". Yeah!! Happy days. If they had broken up after "...And Justice For All" I'm sure they'd still have been the best thrash metal band in people's minds. As it is... well, you know.

What to do what to do

Life is choices! Should I buy this film or shouldn't I???

The only review on HKMDb says (the full review!): "Edward Li narrates this almost laughable documentary about localsuperstitions. Joyce Ngai and Lily Chung are on hand to help out and even participate in dramatic re-enactments. It kind of reminds me of a high school production."

[click scan for bigger size]

Gee, that doesn't sound promising at all. But it DOES feature Lily Chung !!! She was queen of the nasty Category III horror films in the early 90s. She was the chick in such PROMINENT category III films as RED TO KILL, DAUGHTER OF DARKNESS, BROTHER OF DARKNESS, THE ETERNAL EVIL OF ASIA!!! Those films are so vile and nasty that they're always dismissed as utter garbage by kung fu movie fans, haha. Obviously my background is in horror movies so needless to say I quite like those films.

But uhhh, what to do what to do???

Saturday Night Fright Flick Trailer (weirdness galore)

Friday Fun Trailer

Last week we saw the trailer for Jack Hill's very entertaining THE BIG DOLL HOUSE (1971) shot in the Philippines with Pam Grier & Sid Haig and produced by such prominent Filipino folks as Eddie Romero and John Ashley. According to IMDb Roger Corman and Cirio H. Santiago were in there producing too.

So this week I find it fitting to post the trailer for the follow-up; Jack Hill's THE BIG BIRD CAGE from 1972. The first time I watched the film was after I found it on VHS one summer's day in Melbourne in the early 1990s. I remember the store didn't have a whole lot of cool titles but I came out with three tapes and one of them was THE BIG BIRD CAGE (another was DRUM, which also stars Pam Grier and was on Betamax tape no less! Hmm, wonder what the last one was... hmmm...). I was lucky enough to catch (and tape) THE BIG DOLL HOUSE a couple of years later when it was screened on TNT (now called TCM).

Anyway, apart from Pam Grier this one also stars Sid Haig, and Vic Diaz is also in it. My own bet is he was probably in 95% of all Filipino exploiters that came out in the 70s and 80s. Unfortunately he died a couple of years back. Among the babatious actresses we also find Anitra Ford (who was also in on of my favourites; STACEY!, also from 1973)and Carol Speed (who was "Abby" in the blaxploitation ripoff of THE EXORCIST; ABBY).

I know-I know, the internet is full of crappy YouTube stuff and life's too short to watch even just a fraction of it all but do go ahead and watch this trailer, it's mighty good fun!

More horror en español!

It's four in the morning and I think it's of utmost importance that I tell you I have just purchased even more Mexican horror movie related stuff!! I won the old rare and muy deleted video release of DR. SATAN and secondly I ordered the (probably) very exiting British book "Hispanic Horrors" (from Midnight Media). Woo-hoo!! Oh, and yesterday I bought LA NAVE DE LOS MONSTRUOS (aka The Ship Of Monsters) from 1960. I first discovered the film on Don_fofo's way cool blog Cinediondo. Check the post here and even if you don't read Spanish then at least check the cheesy screen grabs! (otherwise you could use my Bablefish translator at the bottom of this page).

The sequel DR. SATAN Y LA MAGIA NEGRA (Dr. Satan Vs. Black Magic).

You got here because of THAT???

Apart from my regular readers I also get a bunch of hits from people who land here cos they've used a search engine. And that's obviously fine, good call if they discover this blog by making a search for RAMBU or some other such worldweird movie.

However, eh, sometimes I wonder what it is in those search engines' digital heads that make them direct people here. I mean... have I really written that much about Danish porn??? Haha.

This is a list of searches people made when they were directed here yesterday (and yes I did #12 myself):

1. "en lejemorder ser tilbage"
2. bamboo porn star
3. blackmagic2
4. blackmagic2 revenge of the zombies dvd-r
5. danish porn
6. danish porn stars videos
7. danish porn trailers
8. danish porno star
9. danish pornstar
10. danish pre cert
11. filipino soft porn videos
12. flying head with intestines dangeling underneath
13. greek softporn video
14. intruder rambu
15. jaws 5 cruel jaws on dvd
16. kan man købe jaws spillet i føtex
17. korkusuz-aka-turkish-rambo
18. mini skirt
19. miss tove
20. porn star hongkong
21. ser porn
22. sexy mini skirt
23. videos film barry prima

So amazing you'll have to lie down to absorb it!!!

I watched BRUCE AND THE SHAOLIN BRONZEMEN and... argh... my Brain is toast now! It was... quite an over-the-top excursion into pure insane cinematic madness!! HIGHLY recommended I might add!! I think it only ran 70 minutes or so but those 70 minutes... oh man! Fans of real kung fu flicks would probably hate it but as a Filipino trash film aficionado I completely loved it. My god! None of you should refrain from watching this due to its being a martial arts film or not a real Filipino exploitationer.

Oh, and the dubbing! From old HK kung fu movie tapes I'm of course used to the "ordinary" dubbing but this was different: everyone (including "Bruce Lee") had been dubbed into English... with a thick Filipino accent!! And it seemed as if the English lines had been either made on the spot or just by some translator who wasn't completely familiar with the lingo. I'm definitely gonna watch it again.

I'm gonna blow ya no matter what you say!

Hey, why ya try and blow him!! Get off!!

Killer dwarfs!

Silence! I kill you! I stare! You die!
