Reeling them in! (the rare Dutch ex-rentals, that is!)

Ahh, here are scans of four tapes I won last night at an auction over on Cinehound. The three top tapes are Japanese monster movies! And yes, I can get them on DVD and no, they don't hold the usual ex-rental collector value to me since I only collect Danish tapes (unless it's something I can't get anywhere else).

SUPER MONSTER (International title) aka Gamera Super Monster (US TV)

So why these tapes? Well, 10 years ago I use to have a catalogue from a shop called Cult Corner in Amsterdam lying around! Cult Corner had this truly amazing VHS catalogue of what they described as "500 uncut films"! Now, they didn't actually have 500 but they did have TONS of titles and I kept looking thru that catalogue again and again, drooling away. The problem was that I didn't have too much money at the time (kinda like now) and the tapes were quite expensive. Plus it was a pain in the arse to order from other countries as we didn't have the internet, online shopping, or PayPal!! Back then I only got hold of very few of these tapes so when I saw that Peter (aka Petcor80) had some of the tapes up for auction I immediately felt the same urge to own them. Can I get them on DVD? Fuck off! That's not what this is about, haha.

The fourth tape is THE EXECUTIONER, PART 2 which is the un-official sequel to THE EXTERMINATOR (which actually has an official sequel!). I already have the UK tape but I'm told it's missing two scenes so needless to say I hope this Dutch tape is gonna be fully uncut!

Ol'e Drac gets a bathtub... I mean Bafta

He'll spit in your face if you mention Dracula to him but, hey, he's still the best Dracula there ever was in my opinion! DRACULA from 1931 may be the version every scholar agrees to is the "real" Dracula film but to me it's Hammer Horror's HORROR OF DRACULA (which actually, originally is also just called DRACULA in the UK). The other day he received the BAFTA prize for having made a lot of awesomely cool films for a real long time (altho they phrased it differently). I taped the show but haven't bothered to watch it yet but one segment I made sure to watch is Christopher Lee's speech and now by the wonders of YouTube you can all watch it. :D

PS: Please don't send hate-mail; Calling Lee Hammer studio's finest was just for the headline. Needless to say he's rivalled in every way by Peter Cushing but mentioning that would have made for a crappy headline!

Four Flies on Grey Velvet on dvd from AWE

Whoah, big piece of news there! AWE will be releasing Argento's FOUR FLIES ON GREY VELVET (which ran in the Danish cinemas as Fire Fluer) in the second part of this year.

Very cool! Good on ya, AWE!! The big question is of course: Where did they buy the rights from? Dario Argento (who owns the world rights for outside the US) or MYR who released the reg. 1 bootleg (yes, it's a bootleg). I certainly hope they're getting it from Dario who would be able to provide them with an uncut print. The MYR disc is missing 40 seconds and reportedly has problems with the various dubs. I hate buying cut prints so I haven't even bought the MYR disc (I have the German boot).

Rated PG!!!??? O_O

End of the World...

...or at least the end of Jared Auner's WORLDWEIRD blog! Well, maaaybe. A couple of days ago Jared announced that Worldweird will go into hibernation for a while and maybe return at some stage. Or maybe not. Unfortunately, on my five year travel thru space (i.e. Cyberspace) I've come across many a barren world (i.e. blog) that was left behind with a "Will be back soon" note stuck to the door. But they never did come back. They just disappeared into some unknown hell-hole to seek... well, whatever it is you seek in unknown hell-holes. Boo-hoo. I certainly hope not that our good buddy Jared ("our" is not a royal our but our as in "we, the world-weird movie fans") is one of the few that understand and treasure these films. Unfortunately there aren't many of us left (were there ever that many anyway?). Anyway, Jared, I'll try and keep the flame burning here at the "Worldweird rip-off blog" with my feeble attempts at delivering some useful info for the handful of enthusiastic world-weird aficionados out there. Or if not useful info then at least some bad jokes, hearsay, or blatant lies about my own greatness. See ya around, Jared.

*Come back, Shane!*

Riddle me this, Batman: What's better than Killdozer?

http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif

...it's TWO Killdozers, of course!!! *loud insane laughter*

This is a video from the legendary (lol) horror movie KILLDOZER and the soundtrack is by the awesome band Killdozer. And no it's not a real video but a fan video (but then again it's not a real Killdozer track either but a cover version of, well, you figure it out! LOL).

Satanic Crystals (Hong Kong, 1989)

SATANIC CRYSTALS!!! I've known about this movie for yrs but it wasn't till tonight I finally got to see it. "Wild" is probably the best way to describe it. Action galore and too many gory shoot-outs to mention (almost John Woo territory here, altho less stylistic, of course). The plot was... well, it was probably well detailed but it seems the director dropped 10-12 pages in the river, haha.

The print was half letterboxed, looked like a vhs, and the English dub was muffled. I checked the German dub and the sound was way better. Some of the dialogue was completely different, LMAO. The extras were a trailer for the film + a trailer for the Joseph Lai butchered version of CANNIBAL MERCENARY (which I spit on! [the Joseph Lai version that is, not the original film cos that fucken rules!!]).

No, but the effect is great!

Viivi & Wagner

My friend Kurt (aka Member-X) in Finland sent me the above comic strip cos he knows I suffer from bad migraines. Woo-hoo, finally a way out of this insane hell, haha. Click the scan to see it blown up (pun intended, LOL).

If you don't read Finnish here's Kurt's translation:

- Terrible migraine!!
- The blood vessels are expanging, that's why it hurts. Have a nitro (pill)!
----------------
- Does it help?
- No, but the effect is great!
-----------------------
-!!????!
- The nitro makes the blood vessels expand even more. It feels like your head is exploding.

Blonde Fury enroute to this here blogger. xD

Niice! I just scooped up the way OOP Fortune Star DVD of THE BLONDE FURY (aka Female Reporter, dir. by Corey Yuen, HK, 1989) from eBay (it's the real HK DVD I'll be getting, not the Tai Seng "release" from the US. Release in quotation marks cos all they did was to slap on a sticker with their logo onto the case it seems, LOL). The only version in print and easy to get at the moment is the re-released FS VCD. I must admit I haven't actually watched any of Cynthia Rothrock's American films but her old HK flicks from the "Girls who kick ass and look cute" genre sure are good fun! My favourite is (needless to say) YES, MADAM! (aka In the Line of Duty 2) with Michelle Khan.

Here's the original trailer, the picture quality isn't all that good but stick with it anyway!

So I'm watching this German flick 'bout a messed up teen chick...

...who's 15, her mum killed herself, her dad can't see her cos she tried to make him fuck her (my German is a little wobbly here so maybe it was the other way round??), she lives with her drunk aunt (who dies in a seizure halfway thru) and then in one scene she walks out the door from some house and we get this looong scene of her walking... and the music playing is...

LARRY AND THE BLUE NOTES doing the ORIGINAL version of "NIGHT OF THE SADIST" from BACK FROM THE GRAVE CD VOLUME 4!!!!!

How utterly awesome is that! The film is TORPEDO (from 2008) and the film's director (Helene Hegemann) is a 16 year old chick!!! Arrhh, off to a great start I'd say. Kool flick, Kool teen chick (in one scene she just walks round on the street with blood in her face to look more ragged, haha), and even kooler toon by these way kool kats from 1965!!! More info here if you read German.

Hmm, and of course "torpedo" is old slang for a hitman. xD
