Evelyne Kraft RIP

Unfortunately, I just read that Evelyne Kraft died in January in Switzerland! Evelyne Kraft was of course the best jungle bunny to be caught by a Hongkongese King Kong wannabe (in Mighty Peking Man aka Goliathon/Colossus of Congo). When 'Asian Trash Cinema' #1 came out they had a raunchy pic of her on the back of the cover and I just knew I had to track down that film.

RIP Evelyne.

I found this piece of sad news here:
http://monsterkidclassichorrorforum....yne-Kraft.html

- where someone translated the obituary from the Swiss magazine 'Blick':

Originally written by Michel Bodmer/translated by Doctor Kiss
In memoriam Evelyne Kraft (1952 - 2009)
It's as if Evelyne "THE MIGHTY PEKING MAN" Kraft had been completely forgotten. When Swiss cinema doyenne Anne-Marie Blanc (FURY OF THE SABERS, 1965) died in early February, practically every newspaper from the Adliswil Advertizer through to the Zofing Herald dedicated copious column-inches to this lamentable 'loss to the Swiss film and theater scene.' By contrast, Evelyne Kraft's death two months ago in a rural part of Zurich canton barely caused a ripple in the press, with only Blick and the Mittellandzeitung reporting her passing under the catchpenny headline 'King Kong's Swiss Bride is Dead.' Of course, they didn't mean King Kong at all, but Utam, the giant ape from the 1977 Hong Kong trash classic THE MIGHTY PEKING MAN. In the movie, Kraft swung her way through a pot plant jungle, where she had been raised by the mega-gorilla following her parents' death. Although Kraft might have risked damaging the film's profits when she revealed that her hirsute guardian 'wasn't an animal at all, but an Asian guy in an ape-suit,' the movie in fact proved a successful long-term seller, apparently served up most recently to cinemagoers in Mumbai. And THE MIGHTY PEKING MAN made such an impression on Quentin Tarantino that he secured the distribution rights to the picture. (...)

The blonde from Zurich's short-but-memorable screen career began in 1972, alongside Anita Ekberg and Howard Vernon in Ferdinando Merighi's workmanlike giallo THE FRENCH SEX MURDERS. A role as a vamp followed in 1973's THE MANUFACTURERS, co-scripted by Swiss cinema's arguably greatest talent in the comedy field, Clemens Klopfenstein (THE BIRD PREACHERS, 2005). Prefiguring David Cronenberg's CRASH (1996) was director Rudolf Zehetgruber's decision to establish a libidinous connection between Kraft and the Volkswagen Beetle 'Dudu' in the movies SUPERBUG, THE WILD ONE (1973) and SUPERBUG, THE CRAZIEST CAR IN THE WORLD (1975). The actress's Hong Kong excursion followed at this point, before she returned to Europe, armed with newfound gorilla experience, to appear in the French-German co-production OOH LA LA... THE LITTLE BLONDES ARE HERE (1977), in which she played Karin alongside the hugely popular Olivia Pascal's dazzling performance as Maria. She also turned up on German television in single episodes of [detective series] Der Kommissar and [comedy sketch-show] Klimbim, before bidding a worthy farewell to her screen career alongside Brad Harris, Theo Lingen, Eddi Arent, Walter Giller, Roberto Blanco, and Herbert Fux in Franz Josef Gottlieb's LADY DRACULA, and alongside Helmut Berger and Udo Kier in Duccio Tessari's THE FIFTH COMMANDMENT (both 1978).

Thereafter, according to Blick magazine, the former screen-blonde dedicated herself to a) animal welfare, b) global poverty concerns, and c) her husband's real-estate company. Evelyne Kraft died of heart failure on 13th January 2009, aged 57. May she rest in peace.

Naked when you come

If I were in a garage rock band we'd cover this:

It sounds so simple and yet so full of melancholy and ending. From 1966.

Satan's Slave / Pengabdi Setan

Congrats to whoever won the Japanese video release of the Indonesian horror movie SATAN'S SLAVE, known in Indonesia as Pengabdi Setan. The tape went for $162 which was far more than what I had in my pockets. Boo-hoo.

Saturday night fright flick.

Hey creatures of the night out there (it's four in the morning here); This time we take a look at SEYTAN, the Turkish remake of THE EXORCIST, and compared it to the original version (well, I don't but someone on YouTube did, so thanks to that person whoever he is, LOL).

In contrast to the other imitations and ripoffs the Turkish version went the full distance and not only looks somewhat like the original; it IS a scene for scene remake! It was released only a year after the original and mind you at a time when the original version hadn't even played in Turkey. It's a pity the only copies of the film are is such bad shape but at least SOME form of print has survived. Many Turkish movies were destroyed because the owners could use the nickle (or something) in the celluloid!!!

When the surreal becomes... surreal-er

Once in a blue moon I do a Google for this blog and tonight I stumbled over another blog that apparently collects all kinds of stolen bits from other blogs. However, it's like my text got possessed and come out with its head spinning, haha. Check it out and compare with the source material in the bar to the right of this page:

The essentially nickname is my genuine ‘Greek’ jargon nickname on the side of this blog. I tried with a facts of English titles but they con feeble so I irrefutable to snatch care of the genuine nickname imperturbable while most of you won’t covenant it. But, hey, it’ll span an unnamed zip to it! English translated titles could fasten been: A hitman looks embryonic, Diary of a hitman, Memoirs of a hitman, or as mentioned in the above; Reflections of a hitman.
Andy with half of Sods (Denmark’s blue ribbon mug band).

Okay so I lost another auction

Last night, I mentioned over at Cinehound that I lost yet another eBay auction (for a rare Cüneyt Arkin flick) and jester-man Kenneth M. said he'd put up a camera in my flat and posted the video he'd recorded... and here it is. Gee, thanks Kenneth. LOL.

Keyface

I don't think I go quite that much over board in rage over not winning some shit, haha.

(Truth be told; my philosophy is you win some, you lose some, and altho losing is annoying it's also alright. In my book anyway. Unfortunately, there are people out there who might take it a tad too personal, haha)

The good, the bad, the ugly... the REAL version

The Super Eastern eight

[click scan for much bigger size] I have a new camera so I might as well show you my old (but mint condition) poster for the 8 Video International releases that came out in their "Super Eastern Serien" series in Denmark back in the 1980s. These tapes are more rare than getting laid at a dike slumber party and I'm sorry to say I only have GHOSTLY FACE in my collection (but that's probably also the coolest of the lot! Plus it's letterboxed and uncut. Yay! LOL).

Metal up yer ass

From left: Dave Mustaine, Lars Ulrich, Ron McGovney, James Hetfield (in the background). Circa 1981/82

I remember exactly where it began. Ehh, kinda. In 1984 Danish television ran a series of 6 one hour programs entitled "Heavy Metal"!!! I taped them all (on Betamax!). Unfortunately tapes were expensive in those days so I think all (or most anyway) of them were taped over eventually. Anyway, the first episode featured an interview with a very young Lars Ulrich and I just knew I had to have their records! The first one I got was the "Creeping Death/Garage Days Revisited" EP and, woah!! This was something completely different to the hardrock and heavy metal records I had in my collection! Stuff like Iron Maiden, Rainbow, and Girlschool (!!!). It was different to the punk records I had and it was certainly different to the new wave stuff. This changed everything to a lot of youngsters who grew up in northern Europe in the mid-80s. The only proper, big magazine at the time was the original German edition of "Metal Hammer" (the UK version wasn't published till much later) plus of course the tons of underground fanzines (my very first metal zine was "Metallic Beast" whose editors later went on to write for "Moshable"). Anyway, I found this photo (the top one) on some site and it brought back memories; You see this pic was also on the cover on the "Garage Days Revisited" bootleg LP which I bought circa 1986/87. It cost me an arm and a leg! But it was an awesome record to get in those days cos in contradiction to most other boots it didn't contain a shitty recorded live gig but was most of the legendary "No Life 'Til Leather" demo + some other demo from a studio session to "Ride The Lightning". Yeah!! Happy days. If they had broken up after "...And Justice For All" I'm sure they'd still have been the best thrash metal band in people's minds. As it is... well, you know.
